Thanks for this, Marsha. I have several Jewish friends here in Berkeley against the large-scale brutality happening to Palestinian people in Gaza. The families being terrorized are not Hamas, just like we in the U.S. who are appalled and speaking out are not Trump's gang of fascists. We need to speak-up when tens...perhaps hundreds...of thousands of lives are being systematically wiped out, as in Gaza. Kudos to you and other brave souls who have the courage to do so. By the way, my 17-year-old granddaughter, Serene, loves this singer and specifically this powerful song. ❤️

Hey Marsha,

While I agree that criticizing Netanyahu and the Israeli Government is not necessarily antisemitism, failing to acknowledge Hamas’ atrocities which began the war and furthered its continuation surely is. Moreover, antisemitism is found in a false equivalency between a terror organization that sacrifices the people it supposedly represents and a nation which is defending itself - however badly in some instances - from people hellbent on its destruction.

Please keep that perspective in mind. And remember, Hamas wants to murder you, your children and your grandchildren. Every Jew on Earth.

I certainly understand that. And while I agree that some of the people condemning Netanyahu expound an anti-Semitic world view, I do not believe that as a Jew I must only listen to people who see Israel as solely a victim in this latest chapter in the Mid-East tragedy. Should the singer have included Hamas in his song? I don't know. Hamas is a terrorist organization with genocidal and murderous intents. Is that want we as Jews want the country of Israel to be? Must we as Jewish people out-hate and out-murder our enemies' children? I don't think so. Israel is a democracy - flawed like other democracies -- but the people of Israel do not uniformly fall into a straight line behind Netanyahu's questionable actions against the Palestinian people. So if I am understanding your critique accurately, you are saying that the singer should have included a verse about Hamas? Then it would be okay? Thanks for taking the time to read and respond!

In a word: Affirmative. And more than a paragraph. I agree that Israel should be held to a higher standard. And Netanyahu belongs in jail. And I don’t have a problem criticizing the Israeli Government. (I do it myself.) But I see so much antisemitism masked as anti Israel or anti Zionism. Where were all the protests when Trump said evacuate Gaza? Hmmm. Only Talib and her squad who are antisemites. Tough nuggies to them. They thought Biden was bad. Hah!

And now the United States has voted at the UN against a resolution condemning Russia for starting their war!!??!!?? But, you won’t see the protests across the country that should occur. Hmmm….
